Our History
The roots of Wraps -n- Signs started in early 1985 servicing the needs of car dealerships in the South West Michigan area. Wraps -n- Signs has continued to add on many new services over the years to offer our services to clients across the globe. In the early days we set up a mobile route among the major car dealerships and body shops in South West Michigan, offering custom graphics and pin striping on vehicles for sale. Back in those days we didn’t use computers to design custom graphics or pinstripe designs. The truck was filled with various rolls of vinyl striping, so in order to make a fantastic design for a vehicle, we’d have to make all of it by hand by laying it out on the body and literally hand cutting it.
The mobile installation service, which continued for years, eventually diversified into having to purchase a vinyl cutting plotter in order to keep up with the growing demand of the dealerships and body shops. The variety of graphics packages grew with the ability to make custom designs with the use of a computer and being able to cut the designs out with the new vinyl plotter. In those days the shop was located in the basement of our house which was fine for a short time but quickly outgrew it.
The need grew to converting our attached one car garage into a shop for producing the custom graphics packages. With the versatility of the vinyl cutting plotter the business gradually expanded into offering lettering for the clients of the car dealers and body shops. Eventually we expanded it into offering businesses signs made out of cut vinyl. Very soon after moving to the garage we purchased our first wide format 30 inch printer. We would now be able to offer our graphics packages in full color designs.
As you can imagine that didn’t last long either, so a new shop needed to be found and we moved out to the pole barn directly behind the house. The larger work space allowed us to be able to develop many new products that we eventually started to offer up for sale on a website and Ebay, so now we were offering products and services across the globe. We developed many of our installation methods here for doing vinyl wraps and signs of just about every kind. With the development of full color graphics we saw the need to expand our skills in Photoshop in order to keep up with the demands of our clients. The pole barn shop worked well for this wholesale type of business but made getting to that next level a bit difficult, offering products and services in a retail space.
The search began in early 2008 for a retail space in which we could continue the growth of the company and once again diversify into offering even more services. A suitable space was found in beautiful downtown Kalamazoo. Being in among the many downtown businesses offered us many new contacts that we previously never had. Our current address of 8324 Shaver Rd. Suite 2 Portage MI can allow much larger vehicles inside so we can service anything!
